IDW Publishing to Enter the Darkside With New Comic Book Series

idw-talesfromthedarkside

Locke & Key fans will have reason to celebrate this summer when Joe Hill (NOS4A2, Wraith) and Gabriel Rodríguez (Onyx) unleash their latest horror series on the world. Tales from the Darkside sees the Eisner Award-winning team reunite on a comic-book revival of the horror anthology TV series of the same name.

The four-issue series will feature Hill’s re-imagining of Tales for a contemporary take on the cult classic. Structured to have the scope of Locke & Key while exploring a vast, underlying mythology, Tales aims to unfold a cohesive universe made up of each individual issue. According to the creative team, these stories will draw inspiration from the TV series that it has spawned from while also taking a meta approach to the material. Hill elaborated further on what his vision for the series is and what fans can expect from the too-good-for-TV story structure:

“This is the show that could’ve been,” says Hill. “The original Tales from the Darkside was a fun, bleak little spin on the Twilight Zone style anthology. My idea is to give readers a little more. Every story is meant to stand alone, but gradually, you will come to see how they all connect, to tell a single larger story.”

While Rodríguez will provide cover art for the series, joining the team will be Charles P. Wilson III (The Wraith) who will contribute variant covers.

“The universe that Joe is building here is wholly unique while still doing justice to the original show,” saidTales from the Darkside editor Michael Benedetto. “And having Gabriel collaborating with him again is the best we could have possibly hoped for. These guys have a proven track record, and this series will only serve to build on their reputations as excellent storytellers and masters of horror and suspense.”

Prepare to enter the ‘Darkside’ this June at your local comic shop – plenty of time to get caught up on Locke & Key before then!

Titan Comics Joins Forces With Hammer

Hammer Titan Comics

Titan Comics and Hammer just announced a new partnership.  Read on for the details.

From the Press Release:
Beginning this Halloween 2016, Titan Comics is thrilled to announce it will team up with world-renowned Hammer to breathe new life into some of their iconic characters.

Founded in 1934, the legendary British studio Hammer Films produced hundreds of motion pictures across many genres including science fiction, psychological and supernatural thrillers, films noir, and even historical epics. However, the famous brand gained its worldwide reputation – and became hugely impactful across popular culture – with an array of now-classic Fothic horror films including The Quatermass Experiment, The Gorgon, The Devil Rides Out, and a string of motion pictures featuring iconic monsters Frankenstein, The Mummy, and Dracula, the latter of which made its stars Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing into household names.

The quintessentially British Gothic aesthetic of these Hammer films went on to inspire generations of filmmakers, including Roger Corman, Tim Burton, and Guillermo del Toro, and has left such an imprint on the genre that the term “Hammer Horror” became shorthand for a visual style consisting of creepy castles and boiling blood.

Since its rebirth in 2008, Hammer’s new film output has included the worldwide box office smash The Woman in Black and its sequel, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death – a global franchise born from Susan Hill’s celebrated Gothic novella – as well as the critically lauded vampire film Let Me In and folk horror Wake Wood, as well as the paranormal thriller The Quiet Ones.

Announced at ComicsPRO retailer summit in Portland, Oregon, the partnership will see the publication of brand-new comic stories featuring classic Hammer properties, as well as wholly original Hammer stories, produced by Titan.

Editor David Leach said, “At Titan Comics we’re howling at the moon over this bold new collaboration! Hammer is the home of some of the most groundbreaking horror and genre films in motion picture history. Together we’re going to make some terrifyingly good comics.”

hauntedmansion

Now can you not only bring home souvenirs and collectibles from Disneyland, but their actual scent.   You don’t even have to leave the house to do it.  Anthology Candles  which has an Etsy store is selling candles that are inspired by and smell like Disneyland.  The candles are 8 oz. and cost just $16.  Our favorites would be Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion.  However, there is currently a 2-4 month wait from date of purchase as the candles have gone viral and they currently have more business than they can handle.

There are eight choices to choose from:

  • Haunted Manor (Haunted Mansion)
  • The Black Pearl (Pirates of the Caribbean)
  • Main Street Bakery
  • Pineapple Whip (Dole Whip)
  • Part of Your World (The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure)
