Screamfest Opens with “The Collection”

Screamfest kicked off last night at the Regal Cinemas at LA Live with the premier of “The Collection” followed by an after party at the Hotel Figueroa.  Many celebrities in the horror industry were in attendance and the film wrapped up with Q&A session by the cast and crew.  Screamfest runs until next Sunday.

“The Collection” tells the story of  Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick) who goes to an underground rave party with her friends where them and others are mowed, sliced and crushed to death by a black-leather mask wearing psychopath.  She is kidnapped and put in a box where she’s taken to an unknown location by the serial killer who collects humans as trophies.  Arkin (Josh Stewart)has escaped from him and is the only person who knows where she’s taken.  Elena’s rich father hires a group of mercenaries to go and save her.  Arkin is enlisted to lead them there (an abandoned hotel filled with booby traps).

The killer does experiments on the victims he doesn’t kill and turns them into living zombies.  Arkin and his team must battle them and save Elena before she becomes part of the “collection”.   They must also navigate their way through the booby-trapped, abandoned hotel where each trap is more elaborate than the last.  Can they survive themselves and rescue her before it’s too late?

“The Collection” is from the writing-directing team Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (Saw IV, V and VI).  It’s a suspenseful film with great sets and beautiful cinematography.  The superb performances and excellent script put you right in the action and climaxes in a beautiful and poetic scene near the ending.
